At Farm School KC, adolescents are seen as “novices of society,” navigating growth while seeking independence and purpose. Our classes blend rigorous academics with real-world projects that integrate multiple disciplines—collaboration, problem-solving, financial literacy, and communication—while fully meeting academic and graduation requirements, including ACT preparation.
Students have options to work in small groups, indoors or outdoors, and assessments offer multiple ways to demonstrate mastery. Learning is often rooted in the land and the school community, helping students build confidence, competence, and a sense of their unique value in the world.

At Farm School KC, enrichment is an essential part of our Montessori approach—offering students opportunities to explore their interests, develop life skills, and discover new passions.
Students participate in electives several times a week, which often grow directly from their own curiosities and ideas. These courses may include practical life skills such as cooking, as well as physical activities like ballet, yoga, or martial arts.
Our off-campus equine program at Little Raven Farm offers hands-on learning and connection with animals, while Creative Expression Wednesdays invite students to explore the arts through sewing, painting, music, and other forms of creative work.
We also extend enrichment beyond the classroom with college and trade school visits, as well as career visits from community professionals—helping students see real-world pathways for their interests and talents.

A hallmark of the Upper School experience is the year-long culminating project, designed to reflect each student’s personal interests and intellectual passions. Students explore a topic of their choice in depth, offering original insights and expanding upon existing ideas in a way that reflects their individual voice and purpose. This project may serve as part of a college admissions portfolio or as a sample of work for future employment opportunities.
Students present their completed projects to a committee at FSKC, demonstrating both subject mastery and strong communication skills. Successful completion and presentation of the culminating project is a graduation requirement for all Upper School students.
Out of our previous graduates, 33% went to college, 33% went to a technical school and 33% joined the workforce. -
At Farm School KC, our year-round schedule is rooted in Montessori principles—supporting consistency, balance, and deeper connections in learning. Children thrive when education follows the natural rhythm of curiosity rather than the limitations of a traditional school calendar.
Research shows that long summer breaks often lead to academic regression and challenges in social-emotional well-being, known as the “summer slide.” A year-round model helps prevent this, allowing students to maintain momentum, confidence, and engagement throughout the year.
Shorter, more frequent breaks support rest and rejuvenation without losing progress, creating a steadier flow of learning and community connection. For teachers, this rhythm also allows for more sustained relationships with students and continuity in their work.
In true Montessori spirit, our year-round approach nurtures growth as a continuous process—supporting not only academic success, but also the well-being and balance of the whole child.

Farm School KC is a learning community where adolescents are seen, supported, and guided with intention. Rooted in Montessori principles, we emphasize Grace and Courtesy, teaching respect, responsibility, and care for self, others, and the environment.
We support the whole child, valuing emotional and mental health just as much as academic growth. Guides observe and respond to each student’s needs, adjusting the classroom or materials to foster development. Challenges are met with curiosity and collaboration, and parents are valued partners throughout the process—creating a truly nurturing, individualized learning experience.

We recognize that Farm School KC is a substantial investment for your child(ren). The Board of Directors works tirelessly to garner funds to support scholarships for students. Currently over 50% of our students are receiving some sort of financial support.

Farm School KC believes that travel is one of the best educations that a student can have. We encourage parents to take their students on trips and to explore other cultures. Traveling broadens your horizons, inspires your creativity, helps you to connect better with others and challenges you to grow.
There may be times that the guides will assign a certain assignment to the student when traveling and will work to make their trip part of their curriculum.
